Packaging
At Rachel's we are always trying to find new ways to reduce our environmental impact and improve sustainability.
Our organic dairy products are produced in harmony with nature to protect the long term viability of the soil and local ecology, however packaging has traditionally been a much more thorny issue and difficult to solve!
However in 2007 we launched a new 2-layer pot, which used a combination of a recyclable card outer sleeve and a thinner plastic inner pot to reduce the plastic used. In fact we managed to save 240 tonnes of plastic a year!
However it has remained a bug-bear for us (and also we know through emails that it is for many of you too) that it isn't possible in practice for most people to recycle the plastic pot liner - which was made from lightweight but strong - polystyrene.
However we are pleased to announce that from June 2009 Rachel's will be the first yogurt brand to introduce new recycled plastic yogurt pots to supermarket aisles with our 450g and 150g yogurt range!
