FAQs

Q How can I find out about recycling facilities in my area?
A Try the list of websites below or contact your Local Authority.
For England - www.recyclenow.com
For Scotland - www.wasteawarescotland.org.uk
For Wales - www.wasteawarenesswales.org.uk
For Northern Ireland - www.wakeuptowaste.org
For The Republic Ireland - www.repak.ie/bring_banks or www.thorn.ie/recycling.htm.

Q Why is your pot only 60% recycled?
A Our pot is actually made of more than 60% recycled material. The 60% figure we can officially promote is 'post-consumer' recycled material i.e. from plastic that has been part of a previous pack, used and then recycled. However plastic material is also recycled from within the factory that makes the pots (e.g. off-cuts) etc which take the total recycled content of our pot up to 85%. A minimum quantity of brand-new plastic is used to maintain the quality and integrity of the material - essential to keep our yogurts fresh and delicious.

Q Where is your rPET sourced from?
A We are processing RPET sourced from the UK, manufactured using UK post consumer bottles from UK consumers which further minimises the carbon footprint.

Q Why don't you use recycled card?
A We have trialed recycled card however we find that it absorbs moisture in our chillers and therefore becomes soft and weaker, adversely affecting the quality of the pack by the time it reaches the supermarket or your fridge at home. However, being a wood based product card is a sustainable product, and our card sleeves are widely recyclable for future uses.

Q Why might my local authority accept PET plastic bottles but not PET pots, lids or other packaging types made from the same type of plastic?
A Local councils have prioritised the recycling of plastic bottles because they are easy to clean, the plastics used (largely PET and HDPE) are of higher value, and therefore plenty of recycling plants in the UK will re-process them. In contrast pots, trays and caps come in a wide variety of types of plastics and colours, are more likely to contain food residues, and, until recently, there was little opportunity to recycle them here. However the good news is that situation is improving and we now have 2, soon to be 3, major mixed plastics recycling facilities open in the UK. These plants are highly automated and efficient and are able to recycle mixed plastics - of different polymer types and different packaging formats – including plastic pots and over caps such as ours.
