My mother Dinah was one of the first people to sign up to the Soil Association and her farm, Brynllys in Wales, was the first ever certified organic dairy farm in the UK. In 1966 my husband Gareth and I took the helm.
The local area was hit by freak snowstorms, which meant we were unable to get the milk tankers off the farm and were forced to find new ways of using milk. We started producing butter and cream to distribute as emergency supplies in the local shops, and the products became an instant - success leading us to discover a new product for dairy fans.
I created my first yogurts by experimenting with a recipe in my grandmother's recipe book. The same year Rachel's dairy was officially founded and it wasn't long before supermarkets such as Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco and Morrisons were stocking Rachel's yogurts nationwide.
The demand for my delicious yogurts from UK retailers grew so much that we had to build a new purpose-built dairy in Aberystwyth - and the dairy is still based there today.
We revolutionised our yogurt pots with an impactful new black pot design. In the same year, I was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Honours list for my services to agriculture, which was an incredibly proud moment for me.
Today as I watch the business go from strength to strength, I am so proud that we are still delivering the very best taste experience in yogurts and desserts - today, tomorrow and always.
