Weaning
By about 6 months of age, milk (breast or formula) alone is not nutritionally balanced enough to satisfy your baby’s needs. Stores of certain nutrients will also have depleted and can’t be replaced by a diet containing just milk.
Weaning is the name of the process which moves your baby from a total milk diet to one which includes solid foods too.
The Department of Health recommends that weaning should start at 6 months of age, but babies develop at different rates and some will be ready before then.
You should never start weaning before 17 weeks though as your babies digestive system won’t be mature enough to cope with solid food.
