Rachel's Organic, Britain's leading organic dairy, has announced support of Mentro Lluest, as the company's local charity. The training centre in Aberystwyth teaches skills to people with special needs and is based on the principles of organic growing, environmental sustainability and social cohesion within the community.
Mentro Lluest recently faced a funding crisis and threatened closure in September as the centre's funding from the European Social Fund dried up. The project had to close its doors to new students despite interest from people wishing to enrol on courses the charity offered. Activities at Mentro Lluest include growing and producing food in an organic and sustainable way whilst providing horticultural and life skills to students.
Now local company Rachel's Organic has come to the rescue and donated £10,000 to help fund new schemes and key objectives.
Announcing the support, Neil Burchell, Managing Director of Rachel's Organic said, “We are delighted to support this initiative in Ceredigion. As part of our corporate social responsibility we are committed to support the local community and we have been impressed by the valuable work undertaken at Mentro Lluest and understand their financial need. We receive many requests from different organisations and this year we have decided to focus our efforts on one special cause, hopefully to make a substantial difference in the locality. Staff at Rachel's Organic are pleased to be getting involved and we are talking to the centre about other practical ways in which we can help the work of Mentro Lluest.”
