1900

It all began with Bessie – Rachel’s grandmother and the first of the three generations of female farmers that inspired our yogurt. In 1900 she led the way by becoming the very first Dairy Instructor at the University College of Wales in Aberystwyth.

1907

Bessie and her husband started a smallholding with two cows, a pig, 20 beehives and a fruit and vegetable garden.

In 1939 Bessie handed control of her farm to her daughter Dinah

1952

Rachel’s mother, Dinah, bought Brynllys farm with her husband Stanley during World War II. This was where she laid the groundwork for truly organic farming, using only natural methods and it became home to her prize-winning Guernsey cows.
In 1952, Dinah became a founding member of the Soil Association.

1966

Rachel, with her husband Gareth took over the running of Brynllys farm and continued to farm in the same natural way that her mother and grandmother had taught Rachel and in 1973 it was Certified Organic as it still remains today

1982

The local area was hit by freak snowstorms, which meant Rachel & Gareth were unable to get the milk tankers off the farm and were forced to find new ways of using milk.
They started producing butter and cream to distribute as emergency supplies in the local shops, and the products became an instant success, leading to the discovery of a new product for dairy fans.

1984

Rachel created her first yogurts by experimenting with a recipe in grandmother Bessie’s recipe book. The same year Rachel’s dairy was officially founded and it wasn’t long before supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Tesco and Morrisons were stocking Rachel’s yogurts nationwide

1992

The demand for Rachel’s delicious yogurts from UK retailers grew so much that a new purpose-built dairy was needed. Built on the outskirts of Aberystwyth, the dairy remains there today and is the home to all of Rachel’s organic yogurts

1997

They revolutionised the yogurt pots with an impactful new black pot design. In the same year, Rachel was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Honours list for her services to agriculture.

Today

Rachel’s organic today strives to deliver the very best taste experience in yogurts and desserts using organic milk and the best ingredients that nature has to offer – today, tomorrow and always.
